Abisko Scientific Research Station hosts a series of meetings this week.
In additions to the PAGE21 General Assembly, the Research Station hosts the INTERACT Station Managers Forum at the end of the week, PAGE21 Young Researchers workshop tomorrow Sunday and Young permafrost researchers workshop today Saturday.
The Young permafrost scientists meeting today gathers together young professionals from International Permafrost Association, PAGE21, Canadian ADAPT permafrost project and PYRN - Permafrost Young Researchers Network to plan for the upcoming EUCOP 2014 young researchers workshop.
PAGE21 young researchers take actively part in preparation of this workshop and will have a strong representation at the workshop next year.
Workshop on GHG and C balance on PAGE21 sites

Today, as part of the upcoming PAGE21 General Assembly in Abisko Northern Sweden, a work package 4 is hosting a workshop on GHG and C balance on individual PAGE21 sites.
In addition of the PAGE21 participants, the workshop has external experts participating in presentations and discussions.
The workshop will run from 9 o'clock in the morning til after dinner and will conclude in planning joint papers for publication.

Post - doc position in land surface modeling in Stockholm is now available at Stockholm University, Department of Applied Environmental Sciences (ITM) and Bert Bolin Center for Climate Research.
This is a full-time post-doc position for initially one year with the possibility of one-year extension. The expected starting date is as soon as possible after agreement.

The INTERACT project under EU FP7 has a Transnational Access program that offers access to 20 research stations in the northernmost Europe and Russian Federation.
The sites represent a variety of glacier, mountain, tundra, boreal forest, peatland and freshwater ecosystems, providing opportunities for researchers from natural sciences to human dimension.
Transnational Access includes:
• Free access for user groups/users to research facilities and field sites, including support for travel and logistic costs
• Free access to information and data in the public domain held at the infrastructures
The call for proposals is open at the INTERACT website on 1st August – 30th September 2013 for access visits taking place between Oct 2013 and Oct 2014.
Transnational Access is available to user groups, where the group leader and majority of group members work in an institution established in a EU Member State or Associated State.
The maximum amount of access per user group is 90 person-days, including previously granted INTERACT Transnational Access.
The eligibility rules and application instructions, stations available in the call, descriptions of stations and their facilities, and registration to the on-line application system from can be found on the INTERACT website.

Post-doctoral Position on high-latitude land surface modeling within the Department of Applied Environmental Science and the Bolin Centre for Climate Research is now open for applications.
Candidates with a PhD degree in any quantitative science (e.g. physics, meteorology, geo-ecology or other geo-science, environmental and natural sciences, applied mathematics or computer science) are eligible for this position, given their strong motivation to complement their past training and to apply their expertise to Earth system modeling.
The candidate should have experience with writing models using FORTRAN or similar, and the UNIX system environment. Demonstrated experience in scientific programming, solving numerical problems, and running Earth System Models (or equivalent large-scale models) for scientific purposes is considered strongly beneficial. In general, we seek a flexible and proactive person who is capable of independent thinking, likes to continuously learn about new scientific problems, and actively seeks solutions to these problems.
The candidate must have received a PhD degree no more than three years prior the application deadline, unless there are special circumstances that should be taken into account. These might be illness, parental leave, union duties or similar.
