Last Sunday we had a holiday boat trip to Tit-Ary. This is a small fishery settlement to the south from Samoylov. Thanks to Fedor - two hours by our "Ural" and we are there, enjoying on the way the beautiful weathered rocks, which look sometimes like a mystical fortress.
Translated from yakutian language, Tit-Ary means Larch Island, and it is not without reason. In fact, there is a most northern larch forest on Earth. Of course, trees are low and sparse, but nevertheless, the landscape is completely different from the tundra we are used to see every day now.
The village was founded by political prisoners who were deported there during Stalin's times.
They arrived on the island late autumn and to have a chance to survive they had to cut nearly all trees for building their houses. Nowadays we see the new forest, which probably has grown again also as a result of the climate warming.
Wandering in the forest was really enjoyable – weather was good and we could eat very tasty
cloudberries and to pick a lot of mushrooms.
Then we were invited to visit a very remarkable person - Nikolay, who has a part in a fishery business in the village.
Of course, we have tried the freshest and tastiest fish we ever could have! And gotsome as a present for those people who didn't come with us.
Also, Nikolay is building a few housesin traditional yakutian style, there, on the island to attract people to come. His dream is to develop touristic business in the village.
