The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to support the work of Professor Pierre Friedlingstein. This EU/FP7 funded post is available immediately. The successful applicant will work within the PAGE21 European project on high-latitude permafrost modeling, assessing the future impact of potential permafrost melting on the climate system.
The post will include development of permafrost dynamics in the JULES global land surface model, model evaluation followed by future climate projections in order to assess the vulnerability of permafrost. The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the numerical modeling applied to Earth System sciences in order to work within the project. Applicants will be able to develop and use large numerical models of Earth System components, lead model intercomparisons activities within the PAGE21 project and conduct the analysis of permafrost role in coupled climate simulations.
